Lancashire County Council want to close 35 libraries. And as tough as it must be to balance the books, there has to be another way; a smarter way. Once gone, they will never re-open. The Victorians who brought public libraries to the masses would turn in their graves.
I do a lot of talks in libraries and I'm constantly impressed at the scope of activities which the dedicated staff provide for the communities they serve; providing to young mothers, senior citizens and help to those trying to enhance their job prospects by becoming computer literate to name but a few examples. As well as lending books.
For those living in Lancashire, you can "have your say" by clicking on the following link. I have, and if enough folk do, who knows what may happen.
